BLEECKER, Harmanus, a Representative from New York; born in Albany, N.Y., October 9, 1779; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1801 and commenced practice in Albany; elected as a Federalist to the Twelfth Congress (March 4, 1811-March 3, 1813); was not a candidate for renomination in 1812; resumed the practice of law in Albany, N.Y.; member of the State assembly in 1814 and 1815; regent of the University of the State of New York 1822-1834; Chargé d’Affaires to the Netherlands May 12, 1837, to June 28, 1842; retired from public life and business pursuits; died in Albany, N.Y., July 19, 1849; interment in the Rural Cemetery.
