HIBBARD, Harry, (cousin of Ellery Albee Hibbard), a Representative from New Hampshire; born in Concord, Essex County, Vt., June 1, 1816; pursued classical studies and was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1835; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1838 and commenced practice in Bath, Grafton County, N.H.; assistant clerk and clerk of the State house of representatives 1840-1842; member of the State house of representatives 1843-1845 and speaker in 1844 and 1845; served in the State senate in 1845, 1847, and 1848 and as president of that body in 1847 and 1848; delegate to the Democratic National Conventions in 1848 and 1856; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first, Thirty-second, and Thirty-third Congresses (March 4, 1849-March 3, 1855); was not a candidate for renomination in 1854; declined an appointment to the State supreme court; died in a sanatorium in Sommerville, Mass., on July 28, 1872; interment in the Village Cemetery, Bath, N.H.
