STEVENS, Hestor Lockhart, a Representative from Michigan; born in Lima, Livingston County, N.Y., October 1, 1803; attended the common schools; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Rochester, N.Y.; major general of militia of western New York; moved to Pontiac, Mich.; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855); resumed the practice of law in Washington, D.C.; died in Georgetown, D.C., May 7, 1864; interment in Oak Hill Cemetery.
