LATTA, James Polk, a Representative from Nebraska; born near Ashland, Ashland County, Ohio, October 31, 1844; moved with his parents to Jackson County, Iowa, in 1846; attended the district schools and worked on a farm; moved to the Territory of Nebraska in 1863; taught school in Tekamah, Nebr.; engaged in agricultural pursuits and stock raising in Burt County; became interested in banking at Tekamah in 1887; member of the State house of representatives in 1887; organized the First National Bank of Tekamah in 1890 and served as its president until his death; member of the State senate in 1907; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-first and Sixty-second Congresses and served from March 4, 1909, until his death at Rochester, Minn., September 11, 1911; interment in Tekamah Cemetery, Tekamah, Nebr.
