VAN RENSSELAER, Jeremiah, (cousin of Killian Killian Van Rensselaer), a Representative from New York; born in New York on August 27, 1738; completed preparatory studies at the manor house, “Rensselaerswyck,” and in private schools in Albany; graduated from Princeton College in 1758; took an active interest in the Revolutionary War; member of the Albany Committee of Safety; elected to the First Congress (March 4, 1789-March 3, 1791); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Second Congress in 1790; member of the New York state assembly in 1789; member of the first board of directors of the Bank of Albany in 1792 and president of that bank 1798-1806; lieutenant governor of New York 1801-1804; curator of the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary at Albany in 1804; died on February 19, 1810, in Albany, N.Y.; interment in the Dutch Reformed Cemetery; reinterment in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, N.Y.
