STERLING, Micah, (brother of Ansel Sterling), a Representative from New York; born in Lyme, Conn., November 5, 1784; was graduated from Yale College in 1804; studied law at the Litchfield (Conn.) Law School; was admitted to the bar in 1809 and commenced the practice of law in Adams, Jefferson County, N.Y.; moved to Watertown, N.Y., in 1809 and continued the practice of his profession; held several local offices; treasurer of the village of Watertown in 1816; served as a director of the Jefferson County Bank; elected as a Federalist to the Seventeenth Congress (March 4, 1821-March 3, 1823); resumed the practice of law; member of the state senate 1836-1839; died in Watertown, N.Y., April 11, 1844; interment in Brookside Cemetery.
