Nahum PARKER, Congress, NH (1760-1839)

PARKER, Nahum, a Senator from New Hampshire; born in Shrewsbury, Mass., March 4, 1760; during the Revolutionary War served in the Continental Army at the battle of Saratoga in 1777; settled in Fitzwilliam, Cheshire County, N.H., in 1786; member of the board of selectmen 1790-1794; clerk and town treasurer 1792-1815; member, State house of representatives 1794-1804, 1806-1807; member of the Governor’s council in 1804 and 1805; elected as Democratic Republican to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1807, to June 1, 1810, when he resigned; justice of the court of common pleas for Cheshire and Sullivan Counties 1807-1813; associate justice of the western circuit 1813-1816; judge of the court of sessions, Cheshire County, in 1821 and of the court of common pleas, Hillsborough County, in 1822; member of the State senate and its president in 1828; died in Fitzwilliam, N.H., November 12, 1839; interment in the Town Cemetery.
