DOX, Peter Myndert, (grandson of John Nicholas), a Representative from Alabama; born in Geneva, Ontario County, N.Y., September 11, 1813; attended Geneva Academy and was graduated from Hobart College at Geneva in 1833; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice at Geneva, N.Y.; member of the State assembly in 1842; judge of the Ontario County Courts from November 1855 until his resignation on March 18, 1856; moved to Alabama in the same year and settled in Madison County; engaged in agricultural pursuits; member of the State constitutional convention in 1865; elected as a Democrat to the Forty-first and Forty-second Congresses (March 4, 1869-March 3, 1873); retired from public life; died in Huntsville, Madison County, Ala., April 2, 1891; interment in Maple Hill Cemetery.
