Rowland Ebenezer TROWBRIDGE, Congress, MI (1821-1881)

TROWBRIDGE, Rowland Ebenezer, a Representative from Michigan; born in Horseheads, Chemung County, N.Y., June 18, 1821; moved with his parents in 1821 to Oakland County, Mich.; was graduated from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, in 1841; engaged in agricultural pursuits; member of the State senate 1856-1860; elected as a Republican to the Thirty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1861-March 3, 1863); unsuccessful candidate for reelection; elected to the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth Congresses (March 4, 1865-March 3, 1869); chairman, Committee on Agriculture (Fortieth Congress); unsuccessful candidate for renomination; resumed agricultural pursuits; Commissioner of Indian Affairs in 1880 and 1881; died in Birmingham, Mich., April 20, 1881; interment in Greenwood Cemetery.
