Ashley), a Representative from Ohio; born in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio, January 11, 1923; attended Monroe and Glenwood elementary schools; graduated from Kent School, Kent, Conn., 1942; United States Army, 1943-1945; served in the Pacific Theater of Operations; graduated from Yale University, New Haven, Conn., 1948; Toledo Publicity and Efficiency Commission, 1948; attended University of Toledo Law School; graduated from Ohio State University Law School, Columbus, Ohio, 1951; lawyer, private practice; journalist, 1952-1954; elected as a Democrat to the Eighty-fourth and to the twelve succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1955-January 3, 1981); chairman, Select Committee on Energy (Ad Hoc) (Ninety-fifth Congress), Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries (Ninety-sixth Congress); unsuccessful candidate for reelection to the Ninety-seventh Congress; business owner; professional advocate; died on June 15, 2010, in Leland, Mich.
