LEWIS, William J., a Representative from Virginia; born in Augusta County, Va., July 4, 1766; attended the common schools; member of the State house of delegates; elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth Congress (March 4, 1817-March 3, 1819); died at “Mount Athos” plantation, near Lynchburg, Campbell County, Va., November 1, 1828; interment in a vault blasted out of a solid rock at the summit of “Mount Athos,” Virginia.
