On this date in 1938, a cloudburst near Custer Creek, Montana, caused a train wreck claiming 48 lives. Heavy rains caused the creek to swell and weakened the railroad bridge. When the train crossed the bridge it collapsed, and the train, a locomotive with seven passenger cars, plunged into the fast moving water below.
