Nineteen-year-old Monica Seles was stabbed while sitting on a bench during a changeover in a match against Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva in the quarterfinals of the Citizen Cup tournament in Hamburg, Germany on April 30, 1993.
That's when 38-year-old Gunter Parche of Germany stabbed Seles with a nine-inch boning knife, hoping to injure her so Parche's fellow countrywoman Steffi Graf could regain tennis' top ranking.
