The Question:

Can you tell me how many people are employed in the following occupations in the U.S.: doctor, lawyer, educator, technical/engineer, managerial/professional, sales?

The Answer:

Our table of Median Weekly Earnings of Selected Occupations includes the number of workers in several of those categories. As of 2005, there were 562,000 physicians and surgeons, 598,000 lawyers, and 3,756,000 teachers (including preschool through secondary school) employed in the U.S.

Your other categories are extremely broad, too much so for a definite answer. You may wish to check out the figures on the Bureau of Labor Statistics site. In particular, we recommend looking through the Occupational Outlook Handbook, which contains information and statistics about jobs of all sorts.
