Buddy Ebsen

Birthplace: Belleville, Illinois

Actor best known for his roles in two popular TV series, The Beverly Hillbillies (1962–71) and Barnaby Jones (1973–77). Originally a Broadway dancer, Ebsen and sister Vilma took their vaudeville act to the big screen in MGM's Broadway Melody of 1936. Ebsen starred in several musical films, including Captain January (1936) opposite Shirley Temple. After turning down an MGM contract, he was unable to re-establish himself in Hollywood until the 1950s.
