Frank Guarrera Biography

Best Known as: baritone opera singer for the Metropolitan Opera

A baritone opera singer with remarkable stage presence who sang at the Metropolitan Opera for almost 30 years. Guarrara played roles such as Escamillo in “Carmen,” Marcello in “La Boheme,” and Valentin in “Faust.” His part in the 1950 “Falstaff” broadcasts is still available on CD. He studied at the Curtis Institute of Music before attaining his Met contract. Guarrara played the role of Gianni Schicchi in his final performance at the Met in 1976.
