influential jazz musician and composer who is considered the greatest trombonist of all time. He played with such speed and agility that many thought he was playing the valve rather than the slide trombone. He recorded dozens of albums and played with jazz greats Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Charlie Parker.
