Lenny Kravitz

musician
Born: 5/26/1964
Birthplace: New York City

Lenny Kravitz's eclectic musical style seems to reflect his multicultural background. The son of interracial parents, Kravitz has combined funk, 1960s psychedelic rock, hip-hop, jazz, and R&B to produce his own unique style. Some have drawn comparisons between Kravitz and some of his influences, particularly Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon. He first gained notoriety in 1987 when he married then-Cosby Show co-star Lisa Bonet (the couple divorced in 1993). Two years later he released his first album, Let Love Rule, which was followed by Mama Said (1991), Are You Gonna Go My Way? (1993), and Circus (1995). In 1998, following the release of his fifth album, 5, Kravitz announced plans to found a record label in memory of his deceased mother, actress Roxie Roker.
