Peter Ho Davies

author
Born: 1966
Birthplace: Britain

Born to Welsh and Chinese parents, Davies grew up in Britain before moving to the United States. He refuses to be pigeon-holed into an identity, exploring his Welsh, Chinese, Malaysian (his Chinese mother was raised in a Malaysian community), and American identities in his fiction. His first published story was anthologized in the Best American Short Stories collection, and was the title story of his first book, The Ugliest House in the World (1998). This was followed up by a varied and impressive collection, Equal Love (2000). Davies holds bachelor's degrees in both physics and English from the University of Manchester, England, and an M.A. in creative writing from Boston University. He has been awarded fellowships from the NEA and the Fine Arts Work Center, as well as an O'Henry short story award. He is currently the director of the MFA program in Creative Writing at the University of Michigan.
