Drug lord of Myanmar (formerly Burma), a country that once produced three-quarters of the world’s heroine. The United States called him the world’s largest heroine producer. He was a charming and ruthless guerrilla leader who controlled 75% of Myanmar’s trade. Sa had many private armies funded by his heroine production. His empire traded drugs for guns and used the weapons to cement his control over large areas of Myanmar. Since he surrendered to Burmese officials in 1996, Myanmar only supplies 5% of the world’s heroine.
