Died: Sept. 5, 2007 (Arlington, Virginia)
Best Known as: Republican senator and representative

An Ohio Republican in the House of Representatives, who represented much of northwestern and north central Ohio. He was a lawyer, and served the Ohio Senate for 22 years before going to Washington in 1988. The former Air Force captain led legislative efforts to enact financial-service reforms and clean up commercially contaminated sites. He was found dead in his apartment by co-workers after he had failed to show up at his office. The death appeared to have been due to natural causes. His death should not affect the makeup of the House of Representatives.
