human sexuality expert who, with his second wife and co-researcher, Virginia Johnson, studied sexual behavior and demystified the mechanics of sex. Their work focused on the physiological aspects of sex and sought to make it more enjoyable for couples. Masters began studying human sexuality in 1954, and he hired Johnson two years later. They collaborated for 22 years and published several books, including 1966's bestselling Human Sexual Response.
