John Chuang

entrepreneur
Birthplace: New York, N.Y.

Chuang attended Harvard University, earning both a bachelor's degree and an MBA. In 1986, while running a small print shop as a student, Chuang realized the need for temporary office workers trained to use the Macintosh computer. With two partners, he started an agency to supply temps with Macintosh training, called MacTemps. The venture took off immediately. Offices were opened in five other cities during the first year. By 1995, MacTemps had 40 offices in the United States and several foreign countries, which were employing some 2,300 temps at any given time. MacTemps has also diversified into various technical fields, providing temps skilled at graphic design, computer networking, and administration. The company changed its name to Aquent in 1999.
