William Henry Smith

British newsagent
Born: 1792

He got his start selling newspapers in his father's business in 1812 with his brother Henry Edward. They moved beyond their father's Strand shop using railways and fast carts to deliver to rural locations, eventually becoming the largest newsagent concern in Britain. The business was left to William's son, W. H. Smith, who continued to expand and develop it.

Died: 1865
