Kerr, Judith

Kerr, Judith (Anna Judith Gertrud Helene Kerr), 1923–2019, English children's book author and illustrator, b. Berlin. Her first and most well-known book, The Tiger Who Came to Tea (1968), tells of a gentle beast who interrupts a mother and child having their afternoon tea, eats and drinks everything in the house, and then politely leaves. Possessed of a dry humor and an ability to see the world from a child's perspective, she went on to write a 17-book series about Mog the Cat, including Mog the Forgetful Cat (1970), Goodbye Mog (2002), and Mog's Christmas Calamity (2015). Kerr also wrote children's novels, including When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (1971), part of a trilogy about a Jewish girl whose family flees the Nazis.
