geopark

geopark, area identified by UNESCO as encompassing one or more sites of geological as well as archaeological, ecological, or cultural importance. The Global Network of National Geoparks was officially created under UNESCO's aegis in 2004. Geoparks are popular tourist destinations, important protected regions of geological heritage, and areas of geoscientific research and education.
