Moïse, Jovenel

Moïse, Jovenel, 1968–, Haitian business executive, president of Haiti (2017–). A successful banana exporter and a member of the Haitian Tèt Kale party, but a political novice, he was President Michel Martelly's handpicked successor. In the 2015 presidential election Moïse placed first, but questions about fraud delayed a runoff. Ultimately, the election was rerun a year later, which was months after Martelly had left office. Moïse won in the first round, and succeeded interim President Jocelerme Privert.
