Khan, Sadiq Aman

Khan, Sadiq Aman, 1970–, British political leader. The son of Pakistani immigrants, he studied law at the Univ. of North London (now London Metropolitan Univ.) and the College of Law (now the Univ. of Law). After working as a human-rights lawyer (1994–2004), he was elected to Parliament as a member of the Labour party (2005, 2010, 2015). Khan served as communities minister (2008–9) and transport minister (2009–10) under Prime Minister Gordon Brown. In 2016 he was elected mayor of London, becoming the city's first Muslim mayor.
