Cazeneuve, Bernard

Cazeneuve, Bernard, 1963–, French politician, b. Senlis. A lawyer and member of the Socialist party, he served in the National Assembly (1997–2002, 2007–2012) and was mayor of Cherbourg-Octeville (2001–12). After serving as minister of state for European affairs (2012–13) and minister of state for the budget (2013–14), Cazeneuve was named minister of the interior in 2014 and led the French government's response to the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris and the 2016 attack in Nice. In Dec., 2016, President Hollande named him to succeed Manuel Valls as premier.
