Ramotar, Donald Rabindranauth

Ramotar, Donald Rabindranauth, 1950–, Guyanese political leader. An economist, he joined the People's Progressive party (PPP) in 1967, was elected to its central committee (1979) and executive committee (1983), then was named general secretary (1997). He worked for the PPP for several years and was international secretary of the Guyana Agricultural Workers' Union (1988–93). Ramotar was first elected to the national assemby in 1992. From 2011 to 2015 he served as president of Guyana after the PPP won a plurality in the National Assembly.
