Groysman, Volodymyr Borysovych

Groysman or Hroysman, Volodymyr Borysovych, 1978–, Ukrainian political leader and businessman. He began working in his father's businesses as a teenager, then became mayor of Vinnytsya (2006–14), where he improved the local infrastructure and encouraged business development. A member of Our Ukraine (2004–10), Conscience of Ukraine (2010–14), and Petro Poroshenko Bloc (2014–19), he was served for several months in the Ukrainian cabinet (2014) before he was elected to parliament (2014) and became parliament chairman (speaker). In 2016 he was named to succeed Arseniy Yatsenyuk by his mentor, President Poroshenko; Groysman, who served until 2019, was Ukraine's first Jewish prime minister. He failed to win reelection to parliament in 2019, when he ran as party leader of Ukrainian Strategy.
