Isakson, John Hardy "Johnny,", 1944-2021, American politician, b. Atlanta, Ga., Univ. of Georgia (B.B.A., 1966). After working in the family real estate business until his early 30s, Isakson served in the Georgia House (1976-90) and Senate (1993-96), before unsuccessfully running for governor and U.S. Senator from the state. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to replace Newt Gingrich in 1999, serving until 2003 when he was elected to the Senate. Isakson generally supported social and politically conservative positions, although he opposed Donald Trump's more radical views. He retired from the Senate in 2019 due to health issues.
