Eugene

Eugene, city (2020 pop. 176,654), seat of Lane co., W Oregon, on the Willamette River; inc. 1862. A processing and shipping center in a farming area, the “Emerald City” has wood-products, recreational-vehicle, and food-processing industries. Its booming tourist industry is based on its attractive environment, river recreation areas, and Willamette National Forest. Eugene also is the seat of the Univ. of Oregon, with its noted Northwest Pacific and arts museums, and of Northwest Christian Univ., has a performing arts center, and is a track and athletics center.
