Staffordshire Hoard, archaelogical find discovered (2009) near Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, consisting of more than 1,500 gold and silver items dating from Anglo-Saxon times. Several times richer than the treasure found at Sutton Hoo , the hoard contains mainly martial items of high quality metalwork that largely date from the 7th cent., when the area was in the kingdom of Mercia . Items from the hoard are in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery; The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent; Lichfield Cathedral; and Tamworth Castle, Tamworth.
