Beck

(Beck Hansen)
rock musician
Born: 7/8/1970
Birthplace: Los Angeles

Grammy Award-winning eclectic rock musician whose music incorporates elements of country, folk, rock, punk, rap and pop. Known for his stream-of-consciousness lyrics and innovative use of instruments and sampling, Beck became a sensation with the release of his 1993 single, “Loser.” David Geffen's label, DGC, pursued the artist, though he initially refused to sign with a major label. But Beck relented when DGC allowed him to also release recordings on small independent labels. His recordings include Mellow Gold (1994), Odelay (1996), and Mutations (1998).
