Little League World Series

Infoplease Spotlight: 52nd Little League World Series

Pitching always seems to steal the limelight in the championship game. Eighteen final games (36 percent) have ended in shut-outs. Twice in World Series history a pitcher has pitched a perfect game — Fred Shapiro of Delaware Township, New Jersey tossed one in Game 5 in 1956, and Mexico's Angel Macias followed it up the next year with one in the championship game. Macias' game was also one of five no-hitters thrown in championship game history.

Let's not forget the great hitters. Two years ago, the series was owned by Chinese Taipei player Hsieh Chin-Hsiung, who smacked a tournament-record seven home runs in the five-game series.

Although many dream about being in a world series at any level, few get the opportunity. Some, on the other hand, seem to get too much. Seven players have played in both the Little League World Series and the Major League Baseball World Series. More amazingly, current San Diego Padres relief pitcher Ed Vosberg has played in the little league, college, and major league World Series. Last October, while a member of the Florida Marlins, Vosberg completed his world series trifecta.

Some guys get all the luck.
