Tom O’Horgan Biography

theater director
Died: January 11, 2009 (Florida, USA)
Best Known as: director of "Hair"

Tom O'Horgan, an innovative stage and screen director, introduced the hippie aesthetic to Broadway in shows like Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar. Unconventional in many ways, from its staging to—most famously—the amount of nudity in the show, Hair garnered O'Horgan a Tony Award nomination for Best Direction in 1969. In later years, O’Horgan was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. He was 84 years old at his passing.
