Actor who first became popular in teen comedies and action films during the 1980s, notably War Games (1983) and Ferris Beuller's Day Off (1986). The son of the late stage actor James Broderick and playwright Patricia Broderick, the actor added dramas to his repertoire with Torch Song Trilogy (1988), Biloxi Blues (1988) and Broadway plays (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, 1995). He returned to his big-screen comedic roots with The Cable Guy (1997), Godzilla (1998), Election (1999) and You Can Count on Me (2000). In 1988, while on vacation in Ireland, the car he was driving crashed into an oncoming vehicle. The two passengers in the other car died. His wife is actress Sarah Jessica Parker.
