Academy Award-winning director, actor, producer and writer known for his appealing physical features and his ambitious directorial efforts. He directed the films Reds (1981), for which he won the Best Director Oscar, and Dick Tracy (1990), and appeared in McCabe and Mrs. Miller (1971), Bonnie and Clyde (1967) and Bugsy (1991). He wrote, produced, directed, and starred in Bulworth (1998) and Town and Country (1999). In 1999, he briefly contemplated running for the president. His sister is actress Shirley MacLaine. He is married to actress Annette Bening.
