Margot Kidder made her film debut in Gaily, Gaily (1969) and starred in various 1970s cult films before her breakthrough role as Lois Lane in Superman (1978) and its three sequels. Well known for the dramas of her personal life, this husky-voiced brunette has lived a peripatetic life that featured stormy romances with literati and Hollywood hunks, and problems financial, mental, and medical. After a nationally publicized breakdown in 1996, she was helped back by friends with offers of television guest appearances. She appeared on television in Common Ground (2000). In 2004, she appeared in several episodes of the WB “young Superman” series Smallville.
