James Laughlin

Laughlin founded the publishing company New Directions in 1936. Preferring the work of experimental writers, he published books by a breathtaking roster of authors: F. Scott Fitzgerald, William Carlos Williams, Delmore Schwartz, Vladimir Nabokov, Henry Miller, Lawrence Ferlinghetti , and numerous others. He himself was a poet of note and published several works, including Collected Poems of James Laughlin (1992), collections of his correspondence with notable writers, and essays and short stories.
