In 1931 Sylvia Field Feldman married a banker, Reed Porter. The following year she graduated from Hunter College. Porter became an expert on government bonds while working at a Wall Street investment firm and taking classes. In 1934 she began publishing a newsletter on the government bond market and one year later she started writing a financial column in the New York Post. She later became the paper's financial reporter. In 1978 Porter switched her column to the New York Daily News. She also wrote a number of books on money management, including the 1975 best seller, Sylvia Porter's Money Book. In 1984 she launched Sylvia Porter's Personal Finance Magazine.Died: 1991
