LYLE, Aaron, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Mount Bethel, Northampton County, Pa., November 17, 1759; attended the common schools; engaged in agricultural pursuits; served in the Revolutionary War; member of the State house of representatives 1797-1801; served in the State senate 1802-1804; commissioner of Washington County, Pa., 1806-1809; elected as a Republican to the Eleventh and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1809-March 3, 1817); resumed agricultural pursuits; trustee of Jefferson (later Washington and Jefferson) College, Washington, Pa., 1802-1822; died at Cross Creek, Washington County, Pa., September 24, 1825; interment in the Old Cemetery.
