LEWIS, Fred Ewing, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Allentown, Lehigh County, Pa., February 8, 1865; attended the public schools, the Collegiate and Commercial Institute, New Haven, Conn., and Muhlenberg College, Allentown, Pa.; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1888 and commenced practice of his profession in Allentown, Pa.; mayor of Allentown in 1896 and 1902; organized and was president of the Merchants’ National Bank and was president of the Dime Savings & Trust Co. in Allentown; elected as a Republican to the Sixty-third Congress (March 4, 1913-March 3, 1915); resumed the practice of his profession and also engaged in banking; again mayor of Allentown, Pa. 1932-1936; died in Allentown, Pa., June 27, 1949; interment in Union-West End Cemetery.
