VINING, John, a Delegate, a Representative, and a Senator from Delaware; born in Dover, Kent County, Del., December 23, 1758; studied law; admitted to the bar in 1782 and commenced practice in New Castle County; Member of the Continental Congress 1784-1785; member, State house of representatives 1787-1788; elected to the First and Second Congresses (March 4, 1789-March 3, 1793); was not a candidate for renomination in 1792; member, State senate 1793; elected to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1793, to January 19, 1798, when he resigned; died in Dover, Del., in February 1802; interment in Episcopal Cemetery.
