JENKINS, Mitchell, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Forty Fort, Luzerne County, Pa., January 24, 1896; attended the Kingston public schools and the Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, Pa.; was graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., in June 1919 and New York University Law School, New York City, in June 1923; was admitted to the New York bar in December 1923 and the Pennsylvania bar in January 1924 and commenced practice in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; assistant district attorney of Luzerne County 1938-1946; enlisted as a private in the United States Army in April 1917, and was discharged as a first lieutenant January 2, 1919; enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard as a private in January 1926 and rose through the ranks to lieutenant colonel prior to induction into Federal service on February 17, 1941; served four and a half years during the Second World War, promoted to colonel and was placed on inactive status October 5, 1945; promoted to brigadier general (retired), Pennsylvania National Guard; elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress (January 3, 1947-January 3, 1949); was not a candidate for reelection in 1948 to the Eighty-first Congress; assistant district attorney of Luzerne County, Pa., in 1949 and in 1950; resumed the practice of law in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where he died September 15, 1977; interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Shavertown, Pa.
