HAZARD, Nathaniel, a Representative from Rhode Island; born in Newport, R.I., in 1776; was graduated from Brown University, Providence, R.I., in 1792; member of the State house of representatives in 1818 and 1819 and served as speaker; elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth Congress and served from March 4, 1819, until his death in Washington, D.C., December 17, 1820; interment in the Congressional Cemetery.
