John F. Kennedy, Jr. was the son of president John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and the younger brother of Caroline Kennedy. John Jr. was only three years old when he appeared in one of the most famous film clips of the 1960s: saluting his father's casket after the president was assassinated in 1963. Widely known as JFK Jr., he attended Phillips Academy, then graduated from Brown University in 1983 with a degree in American studies. He earned a law degree from New York University in 1989 and worked for a few years in the Manhattan District Attorney's office. With Michael Berman, he co-founded the political magazine George in 1995. John F. Kennedy, Jr. was a famously eligible bachelor before finally marrying the former Carolyn Bessette in 1996. He and Bessette, along with her sister Lauren Bessette, were all killed in 1999 when a private plane piloted by Kennedy crashed in the Atlantic Ocean near Martha's Vineyard.

John Kennedy, Jr. was born after his father was elected president but before JFK’s inauguration… As a boy, he was sometimes called “John-John” in the press. But according to his father’s aide and biographer Ted Sorensen, the name “John-John” was not used by his family… He died 18 months after a 1997 skiing accident killed his cousin Michael Kennedy… JFK Jr. was played by Kristoffer Polaha in the 2003 TV movie America’s Prince, with Portia de Rossi as wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy.
