After 19 years of Daytona futility, the legendary Dale Earnhardt finally broke through and won his first Daytona 500 in 1998. Never-ending comparisons to football star John Elway ensued, as the Broncos' quarterback finally won the Super Bowl after previously losing three others. Well, start the comparisons again, because the 47-year-old Earnhardt has high hopes of emulating his NFL counterpart and winning his second consecutive championship. Though "The Intimidator" hasn't won since that day in Daytona last February and recorded just the tenth best qualifying time on Saturday, Earnhardt has made a habit of bringing his A-game to Daytona in February.

If Earnhardt does take the checkered flag this Sunday, he will become only the fourth driver to win back to back Daytonas. Richard Petty (1973-74), Cale Yarborough (1983-84), and Sterling Marlin (1994-95) have all successfully defended previous titles.
