The Question:

How did Canada achieve its sovereignty?

The Answer:

Colonized by the French at the beginning of the 1600's, Canada was conquered by England during the Seven Years' War (1756-63). The Treaty of Paris, which was signed after the war, gave England control until the British North America Act of 1867 provided for the unification of the Canadian provinces and served as the country's first constitution.
